Identifying Children’s Potential through Toys and Pets
Early childhood development can be challenging for parents especially during their early years since children normally have no communication skills to connect with their guardians. It is even harder for first time parents who have had no chance of interacting with young toddlers. However, the process of early development of the children can be enhanced through application of various tools such as toys and pets in order to fully connect with them.
I grew up with my sister in a place where there were very few families that were living around, and therefore we did not grow up interacting with other children around us. When she bore her first child, the entire experience was very challenging for her and for me too. We were able to learn a few tips here and there since the internet and television too were a key ingredient to our skills of handling the little child.
Charlie was a very difficult child to fathom, and in most times, she was tempted to think that the child was challenged. He was rarely interested in most of the toys that I or my sister could buy or make for him. I remember in one particular moment when I brought to him a battery powered toy car, during his second birthday.
Understanding Children’s Preferences of Toys and Pets
By then, he had developed significant communication skills and he could even utter several clear words. It was supposed to be a surprise toy for him that could lighten him up since it could move by itself. He received it gladly since he acted happy and I personally took it to his room so that he could play with it at any time that he pleased. I was so shocked the next day when I met him having dismantled the entire toys with its pieces having been placed carefully at different corners of his room. I was furious at first but I played cool so that I may not upset him.
It is then that I realized that he had dismantled the entire car just so that he could reassemble it by himself. I also realized that he was not so much interested in the already complete toys but what he could make of several pieces of toys that were brought to him. Every toy that we ever brought to him had been dismantled and joined up to make something else out of the different pieces of different toys.
Parents should struggle to understand some unique characteristics of their children from as early as possible in order for them to provide them with the necessary support in their growth. My sister told me that she had realized weird things with her son and was quite on them since she was afraid that he could be challenged.
When Charlie joined school at kindergarten level, he was not as socially active as the other children, and his teacher was having problems dealing with him since his wisdom was far better than any other kid in the class. He showed signs of great understanding of concepts at his level, and the school even decided to move him up classes within a very short time.
Charlie had been born a genius and they normally say that geniuses have a high intelligence quotient but they normally display low emotional quotient. They do not easily connect or even associate with people who are not their kind.
Connecting With Children through Participation in Play
Toys and pets to Charlie only offered him the chance to be creative and make up some other funny items out of them. It is not until when he turned four that I came to connect with every item that he tried to construct. He had ideas of various things at his early years, only that he lacked the resources to actualize them
It is crucial for parents to try and identify these early attributes of their children before they come to make rushed decisions about them. Toys and pets are a great way of creating a learning environment for little children as they are easy to toggle with and the sounds that they produce are a great way of building the sound prowess of children and associating with them.
The things that Charlie made in his early years acted as the bridge for me and my sister to understand and communicate with him without flaws. He was not interactive with anyone and was difficult knowing what he wanted. But as soon as we realized his capabilities, we were able to know what type of toys to give him and how to interact with him through them.
