The British Expeditionary Force of 1940 was a relatively small force but was highly mechanised for the day. It was carefully built up over a period of some nine months and reflected the British view of what war was to be like in 1940.
This section will include all known units of the BEF and their equipment. At present the only major items remaining to be included are the Armoured Division and the Motor Division. Neither of these were really available at the start of the fighting. The Motor Divisions had been converted to Infantry Divisions and the Armoured Division was still completing its training and equipping. Both of these units are being added now.
